Dance Educators of America has an ongoing commitment to principles of proper dance training for all students. The Dance Educators of America Ballet Medallion Program is an example of this commitment. This program is a diverse curriculum that encompasses all aspects of proper ballet training. Yearly examinations are administered to acknowledge the proficiency of the student at six levels of training.
As educators, it is important to support the technical development of our students. DEA’s medallion testing program enables DEA Certified Teachers and DEA Certified Members in good standing a useful tool to use within the dance studio to promote proper ballet training. Whether your students are recreational dancers, competitive dancers or pursuing a professional career, the program is an educational model to set the standard of proper training for each level.
All levels have age-appropriate guidelines and dance materials. Silver Bar offers fundamental awareness and provides an excellent foundation in which to build a ballet education. After moving through each level, a Gold Medal dancer will have mastered the applied application and theory of proper technique.
It is the intent of Dance Educators of America to provide the teacher with the best possible tools in which to train the ballet dancer as well as give the students a sense of pride in their accomplishments, of mastering each level. Ballet is a broad discipline, and the training is very specific. This program was designed by ballet masters who will remain involved and invested in the success of your students. Member teachers receive personalized and constructive feedback on their methodology and the participating students receive feedback on their technique and artistrty. The Dance Educators of America Ballet Medallion Program is a perfect partner to help studios optimize the interest and talents of their students.
What is the benefit to you as a studio owner?
Your studio has a ballet curriculum to follow.
Dancers are examined for progress which enables you to show dancers and parents the student’s yearly progress.
Each ballet level allows studio to incorporate appropriate incentives for yearly tuition.
Teachers receive an overall analysis of each level being examined.
Specific attention is given to the technical aspects of training while still giving emphasis to artist expression.
What is the benefit to the students?
A sense of accomplishment with each skill level completed.
Students receive written critiques of his/her proficiency from the examiner outlining overall progress.
A certificate of completion for each level examination the student takes and passes.
DEA’s BALLET MEDALLION EXAM MATERIAL REQUESTS
Examination material requests can only be made by DEA Certified Teachers and DEA Certified Members in good standing.
Included in your in each packet you will receive:
Ballet exam materials for the level you have requested
Suggestions for Ballet music selections to use for exams
Example of student’s acceptance letter
Example of students’ progress/achievement critiques
Teachers overall progress report
DEA’s BALLET MEDALLION EXAM PREPARATIONS
Once examination materials have been received and the dance studio has made the decision to examine students, participating studios should email info@dancedea.com for scheduling of exams no less than six weeks prior to the proposed exams.
Each student that will be examined must be registered by the teacher through their dance comp genie account. Payment must be made prior to the exams being administered.
Examiner will need the following:
A table, a chair with pens and or pencils placed opposite the barres
Bottled water
DEA’s medallion class examinations are guided by DEA Certified and Certified Member Teachers. Simple, verbal cues by teachers are allowed. Each level’s material must be followed exactly when presenting students. Each level should focus on correct technique, proper placement, alignment, port de bras, and coordination. Musical sensibility along with artistic expression should be demonstrated with clear and basic combinations. It is imperative that students memorize the examination class from beginning to the end and have knowledge of ballet vocabulary. As part of the examination students should be prepared to answer simple questions on ballet vocabulary.

All participating students are observed and assessed by DEA’s Educational Department.

DEA Syllabus for Medal testing Levels
The Bronze, Silver and Gold Bar are part of the new material that is being sent to the teacher. The former Bronze, Silver and Gold Medal level syllabi will be sent to the teacher. Once the new Syllabi for the bronze, silver and gold medal is completed that will be sent to the teacher to replace the former material.
